I designed this site so that my friends and family could keep track of what's going on with me while I'm in Indonesia.

So, a little bit about myself: My name is Tim, I'm 26, and I have bachelors of science in physics and applied mathematics from NC State University. From fall 2005 to fall 2006, I was involved with a National Geographic funded camera-trapping expedition in Indonesia. The goal of our project was, and still is, to capture the first photographic evidence of a short, bipedal primate living in the Sumatran rainforest. Read more about that at our project page.

I returned to the United States, and have since been living in Tennessee as a freelance photographer. I am happy to announce that I will be traveling to Indonesia on December 2, 2007 to continue my involvement with the project.

A few things will be different this time. Last time I went with my friend and college roommate Alex, and we were eventually joined by Murray. This time I will be going alone; that is, I will be the only westerner. Luckily, I made many Indonesian friends last year. I hope to enjoy their friendship and hospitality once again.

The scope of our project has also been greatly expanded. Our camera traps yield photographs of all manner of woodland creature, so we decided to use this data as part of a biodiversity study and, ultimately, to persuade the Ministry of Forestry to include a currently unprotected region of virgin rainforest in a nearby national park.

This is an important and exciting project, and I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to play such a major role in it! From this site you will be able to track the latest goings-on via this blog, photographs via my flickr stream, my current whereabouts, and even subscribe to my podcast. Enjoy!
